This project held profound significance as it sought to pay tribute to the client's late mother. The main objective was to create a logo fitting for the client's product packaging, predominantly utilising brown paper materials. With the client's vision crystal clear of honouring her mother's memory through the brand, the focus was on crafting a logo that radiated her essence. To achieve this, I delved into understanding Madeline's personality from the client's perspective, establishing key criteria for the logo that emphasized elegance, sophistication, and a love for vintage aesthetics.
At first, blending the intricate details the client wanted with my usual minimalist style was tricky. Yet, driven by the personal nature of the project, I was determined to meet their expectations and translate such a range of characteristics into the logo . Therefore, I looked for ways to deeply incorporate Madeline's essence into the logo and came up with a solution of drawing inspiration from iconic vintage logos like Aunt Bessy and Quaker who incorporated the inspirational figures behind their brands into the logos. As a result, I started by asking for a picture of Madeline in her youth, capturing the vintage vibe the client sought. This image would then became the heart of the logo, complemented by carefully chosen brown tones to enhance its nostalgic charm and seamlessly fit with the client's brown paper product packaging.
According to the client, a key feature of Madeline's elegance was her signature pearl necklace, which she adorned in the provided image. To capture this essence, I meticulously recreated and enhanced the necklace within the logo, infusing it with colour to symbolise the sophistication and vintage charm she embodied. Its subtle integration into the design ensured it complemented Madeline's image and characteristics without overpowering other features within the logo.
Furthermore, to infuse some colour into the predominantly brown logo, the client expressed a desire to incorporate purple, inspired by her mother's love for purple crocus flowers. Taking this directive quite literally, I sketched and digitally rendered a crocus flower, delicately placing it within Madeline's hair. This subtle inclusion once again not only paid homage to her mother's memory but also injected much-needed vibrancy against the neutral brown backdrop, creating a visually captivating contrast.
Balancing simplicity and symbolism, I carefully designed a logo that embodies Madeline's essence while reflecting the luxury skincare brand's values. The Madeline Skincare project stands as one of my greatest accomplishments, forging a strong connection between client and logo, as shown in the following review...
